You’ve made the big decision.  You’ve decided to pop-the-question.  But how and when and where to do it?  You’ve heard stories about how others proposed, and you want to make your proposal unique and memorable.  Proposing in a hot air balloon, flying high above the Sacramento Valley, will give you a great story to share with friends and family.

A Surprise Hot Air Balloon Proposal

At Sky Drifter’s Hot Air Ballooning we love a good surprise and we are romantics at heart.  That’s why we work with you to make your proposal a complete surprise.  Our plan goes like this:

You tell your significant other that you’ve booked a group hot air balloon ride.  When you arrive at the launch field we’ll pretend we are waiting for more passengers.  We’ll receive a “phone call” from the passengers we are waiting on who tell us they are running so late they will have to reschedule.  Not wanting to ruin your day, we tell you we are going to fly anyway.

About halfway through the flight our pilot will signal you and drop something in the basket.  You offer to pick it up.  The pilot will distract your soon to be engaged other half which gives you time to get down on one knee, pull out the ring and pop the question.  We’ve found this method to be fool proof and it makes the proposal a complete surprise.  Why?  Because if your significant other thinks you booked a private flight, suspicion sets in and often ruins the surprise.

What to Expect on Your Proposal Flight

Just like our private hot air balloon rides, your flight will be either at sunrise, or an hour before sunset when the wind is calm.  You’ll watch as our crew assembles and inflates the balloon.  While the crew is setting up the balloon another one of our crew members will be there to brief you on your flight and get photos of you with the balloon.  Once the balloon lifts-off, you’ll fly over the amazing Sacramento Valley enjoying beautiful scenery.  When you land, our crew will greet you and we’ll celebrate your special event with a bottle of French Champagne and the balloonist’s prayer.
